Motocross
Introduction

History
The first known motocross race took place in 1906 in Surrey, England. It was a five-mile event called the "Auto-Cycle Clubs's Surrey Cup." The term "motocross" is a portmanteau derived from the French words "moto" (motorcycle) and "cross-country."
The first official world championship was held in 1957, organized by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). The sport then began to gain popularity in the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Equipment
Motocross riders use specialized dirt bikes that are lighter and more maneuverable than standard motorcycles. These bikes are designed for off-road use, with high ground clearance, long suspension travel, and rugged construction to handle jumps and rough terrain.

Race Format
A typical motocross race consists of two races, known as "motos," each lasting approximately 30 minutes plus two laps. The rider with the best combined result from the two motos is declared the overall winner.
Races are started from a "gated start," with riders lining up side by side behind a metal gate. When the gate drops, the race begins with a short sprint to the first corner, known as the "holeshot."
Techniques
Motocross racing involves a variety of techniques that riders use to navigate the course. These include jumps, berms (banked corners), whoops (a series of small jumps), and ruts (deep grooves formed by the passage of bikes).
