Overview

The University of Nebraska system is a public university system in the state of Nebraska, United States. It comprises four universities: the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The system is governed by a Board of Regents and is led by a president.

History

The University of Nebraska system was established in 1869 with the founding of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Over the years, additional campuses were added to the system to meet the growing educational needs of the state. The University of Nebraska at Omaha joined the system in 1968, followed by the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1991. The University of Nebraska Medical Center, originally established in 1881 as a private medical college, became part of the system in 1902.
