Royal Ballet
History
The Royal Ballet is one of the foremost international ballet companies, based at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. It was founded by Dame Ninette de Valois in 1931 as the Vic-Wells Ballet, and was granted a royal charter in 1956, becoming the Royal Ballet we know today.
The company's early years were marked by financial instability, but it soon gained a reputation for its productions of classical ballets such as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty.
