Peregrine Cavendish, 12th Duke of Devonshire
Early Life
Peregrine Cavendish was born on 27 April 1944, the son of Andrew Cavendish and his wife, the former Deborah Mitford. He was educated at Eton, a prestigious boarding school in England, and later at Exeter College, Oxford.
Career
Upon the death of his father in 2004, Cavendish succeeded to the dukedom and the family estates, including Chatsworth in Derbyshire, Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire, Lismore Castle in Ireland, and a large part of Eastbourne. As Duke, he has taken on the responsibility of managing these extensive properties and the family's art collection, one of the most significant in Europe.
Personal Life
The Duke married Amanda Carmen Heywood-Lonsdale on 28 June 1967. They have three children: William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington, Lady Jasmine Cavendish, and Lady Celina Cavendish.
Titles and Honours
Cavendish has held several titles throughout his life, including Marquess of Hartington (1944–2004), and Duke of Devonshire (2004–present). He is also a Knight of the Garter and a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
Philanthropy
The Duke is known for his philanthropic activities, particularly in the areas of art and architecture. He is a trustee of the Chatsworth House Trust, which manages the preservation of the house and its art collection for the public benefit.
