Geography
Meridian is located within Ada County, in the southwestern part of Idaho. The city is part of the Boise Metropolitan Area, which is the most populous metropolitan area in Idaho. Meridian is situated between the cities of Boise to the east and Nampa to the west.
History
Meridian's history dates back to the late 19th century. The city was established in 1891 and was originally a farming community. The name "Meridian" was chosen due to the city's location on the Boise Meridian, a principal meridian used in land surveys of the western United States.
Demographics
As of the 2010 Census, Meridian had a population of approximately 75,000, making it the third-largest city in Idaho. The city has experienced rapid growth in recent decades, with its population more than tripling between 1990 and 2010.
Economy
Meridian's economy is diverse, with sectors including healthcare, retail, and manufacturing playing significant roles. The city is home to several large employers, including Blue Cross of Idaho and Scentsy, a direct selling company.
Education
Meridian is served by the West Ada School District, the largest school district in Idaho. The city has numerous public and private schools, as well as a campus of the College of Western Idaho.

Meridian has an extensive parks system, with over 20 parks throughout the city. The city's largest park, Kleiner Park, offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Meridian is also home to the Roaring Springs Water Park, one of the largest water parks in the Northwest.

Meridian is served by several major highways, including Interstate 84 and State Highway 55. The city also has a public transportation system, operated by Valley Regional Transit.
