Early Life
Jarad Anthony Higgins, known professionally as Juice WRLD, was born on December 2, 1998, in Chicago, Illinois. Raised primarily by his mother, he was introduced to music at a young age. His mother, a devout Christian, did not allow rap music in their home, so Juice WRLD's early musical influences included rock and pop music, particularly bands like Blink-182 and Black Sabbath.
Career
Juice WRLD began his music career by posting songs on SoundCloud in 2015. His early tracks were produced with a simple setup, including a basic microphone and a computer. In 2017, he released the track "Lucid Dreams", which sampled Sting's "Shape of My Heart". The song became a massive hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2018, Juice WRLD released his debut studio album, "Goodbye & Good Riddance", which included "Lucid Dreams" and another hit single, "All Girls Are the Same". The album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He followed this with a collaborative mixtape with Future, titled "Wrld on Drugs", which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
His second studio album, "Death Race for Love", was released in March 2019 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album included the singles "Robbery" and "Hear Me Calling". Juice WRLD's music often dealt with themes of mental health, mortality, and struggles with drug addiction.
Death
Juice WRLD died on December 8, 2019, after suffering a seizure at Midway International Airport in Chicago. The cause of death was an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine. His death led to an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow musicians, and sparked conversations about mental health and drug addiction in the music industry.
Legacy
Despite his short career, Juice WRLD left a significant impact on the music industry. His blend of hip-hop and emo music, along with his candid lyrics about mental health and addiction, resonated with a generation of listeners. His posthumous album, "Legends Never Die", was released in July 2020 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
