Winter X Games

Overview

History

The Winter X Games was first held in 1997, following the success of the summer X Games which had been established in 1995. The inaugural Winter X Games took place at Big Bear Lake, California, and featured snowboarding and skiing events. The event has since expanded to include more sports and has been hosted in various locations, including Aspen, Colorado, which has been the primary host city since 2002.

Sports

The Winter X Games features a variety of winter action sports. These include:

• Snowboarding: This is a key event at the Winter X Games, with multiple competitions in different disciplines. These include slopestyle, where riders perform tricks on a course with various obstacles; big air, where riders perform tricks after launching off a large jump; and superpipe, where riders perform tricks in a half-pipe.

• Skiing: Similar to snowboarding, skiing at the Winter X Games includes slopestyle, big air, and superpipe events. There are also ski cross and mono ski events.

• Snowmobiling: Snowmobiling events at the Winter X Games include freestyle, where riders perform tricks on a course; and speed & style, which combines racing and freestyle.
