Walt Disney World Resort
Overview
The Walt Disney World Resort is a sprawling entertainment complex located in the Orlando area of Florida, United States. It is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Parks, Experiences and Products division. The resort opened on October 1, 1971, and has since become one of the most visited vacation destinations in the world. The resort covers approximately 25,000 acres and includes four theme parks, two water parks, numerous hotels, golf courses, and other recreational venues.
History
The concept for Walt Disney World Resort originated with Walt Disney himself, who envisioned a larger, more expansive version of Disneyland in California. The project was initially referred to as the "Florida Project" and was intended to include a futuristic city known as the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT). Unfortunately, Walt Disney passed away in 1966 before the project could be completed. His brother, Roy O. Disney, took over the project, ensuring that Walt's vision was realized. The first phase of the resort opened in 1971 with the Magic Kingdom theme park and two hotels: Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
Theme Parks
The Walt Disney World Resort is home to four major theme parks, each offering unique attractions and experiences.
Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom was the first park to open at the resort and is often considered the heart of Walt Disney World. It is divided into six themed lands: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Iconic attractions include Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
EPCOT
Originally envisioned as a futuristic city, EPCOT opened in 1982 as a theme park dedicated to human achievement, innovation, and international culture. Opened in 1989, Disney's Hollywood Studios is themed around the entertainment industry, particularly movies, television, and theater. Disney's Animal Kingdom

Water Parks
In addition to its theme parks, Walt Disney World Resort features two water parks: Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. Blizzard Beach is themed as a melting ski resort, while Typhoon Lagoon is designed to resemble a tropical paradise that has been hit by a typhoon.
