The University of Munich, also known as Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), is a public research university located in Munich, Germany. Founded in 1472, it is one of the oldest universities in the country and has a rich history of academic excellence and contribution to various fields of study.
History
The University of Munich was established by Duke Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut in 1472 in Ingolstadt. It was moved to Landshut by King Maximilian I of Bavaria in 1800 when Ingolstadt was threatened by the French, before being relocated to its present-day location in Munich in 1826 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria.
