Trump Tower
Overview
Trump Tower is a 58-story, 664-foot-tall (202 m) mixed-use skyscraper at 721–725 Fifth Avenue, between 56th and 57th Streets, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It serves as the headquarters for The Trump Organization and houses the primary penthouse condominium residence of Donald Trump. The building includes offices, retail spaces, and residential units. The structure was designed by Der Scutt of Swanke Hayden Connell.
History
Trump Tower was developed by Donald Trump and the Equitable Life Assurance Company, and was designed by architect Der Scutt of Swanke Hayden Connell. Trump Tower was completed in 1983 and is located on Fifth Avenue, adjacent to Tiffany & Co. and Niketown. The building is a reinforced concrete, shear-wall/core structure and was the tallest structure of this type in New York City when completed.
Architecture
The architectural design of Trump Tower is a product of the modernist style, with its glass curtain walls offering panoramic views of the city. The building's public spaces are clad in Breccia Pernice, a pink white-veined marble and brass and mirrors are used throughout. The atrium, which is open to the public, features a 60-foot-high (18 m) waterfall spanned by a suspended walkway, and a pedestrian bridge crosses over the waterfall's pool. The atrium, apartments, offices, and stores are accessed by entering a doors on Fifth Avenue or 56th Street.
Residential Units
The residential units in Trump Tower are considered some of the most luxurious in New York City. The top three floors of the structure comprise the penthouse, which was originally Donald Trump's residence. The residential units feature high ceilings, nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, and expansive views of Central Park and the New York City skyline.
Office Spaces
Trump Tower houses both the primary business headquarters and secondary local offices of The Trump Organization. The offices are located on the lower floors of the building and are accessed from the Fifth Avenue entrance. The office spaces have been noted for their high-end finishes, including the extensive use of marble and gold leaf.
Retail Spaces
The retail spaces in Trump Tower, which occupy the lower levels of the building, have been occupied by numerous high-end retailers over the years. These have included Gucci and Niketown. The retail spaces are accessed from the Fifth Avenue entrance and are connected to the atrium.
