The Avengers
Overview
The Avengers is a team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1 (cover-dated September 1963), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. The Avengers is often described as "Earth's Mightiest Heroes," and the original team consisted of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor, and Wasp. The team has since expanded to include a wide array of characters from the Marvel Universe.
History
Formation
The Avengers were formed when Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief, attempted to use the Hulk as a pawn in his scheme to conquer Earth. His plan inadvertently brought together Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Thor, who decided to form a team to combat threats that no single hero could withstand. The team quickly gained prominence and became a cornerstone of the Marvel Universe.
Early Years
In the early years, the team saw several changes in its lineup. Captain America was discovered frozen in ice and joined the team, becoming one of its most iconic members. The Avengers faced numerous threats, including the Masters of Evil, Kang the Conqueror, and Ultron. These early adventures established the Avengers as a premier superhero team.
