History
The Order of Mapungubwe was instituted by the then President Thabo Mbeki on 6 December 2002. The order was created to replace the Order of Good Hope which was a carry-over from the apartheid era. The Order of Mapungubwe is designed to honor South African citizens for their exceptional and distinguished service in the international sphere.
Structure and Degrees
The Order of Mapungubwe is divided into four degrees:
- Platinum (OMP)
- Gold (OMG)
