Merril Hoge
Early Life
Merril DuAine Hoge was born on January 26, 1965, in Pocatello, Idaho. He attended Highland High School in his hometown where he began his football career.


College Career
Hoge played college football at Idaho State University, where he was a standout running back. He was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 1986, his senior year.
Professional Career
Hoge was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 10th round of the 1987 NFL Draft. He played seven seasons for the Steelers, primarily as a running back, and one season for the Chicago Bears before retiring due to post-concussion syndrome.


Post-Football Career
After retiring from professional football, Hoge became a football analyst for ESPN. He also served as a commentator for the network's coverage of the National Football League (NFL).
Personal Life
Hoge is a survivor of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer. He has been an advocate for cancer research and awareness, and has written a book about his experiences titled "Find a Way: Three Words That Changed My Life".
Legacy
Hoge's career in both football and broadcasting has left a significant impact. His advocacy for player safety in the NFL, particularly regarding concussions, has brought attention to a critical issue in the sport.
