List of Current US Cabinet Members
Overview
The United States Cabinet is part of the executive branch of the federal government of the United States. The Cabinet's role is to advise the President on any subject he or she may require relating to the duties of each member's respective office. The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments, each of whom is appointed by the President, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Cabinet Members
As of the current administration, the following individuals hold the positions listed.
Vice President
The Vice President of the United States is Kamala Harris. The Vice President's responsibilities include presiding over the Senate and voting in that body to break a tie. The Vice President is also a member of the National Security Council and the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution.
Secretary of State
The Secretary of State is Antony Blinken. The Secretary of State, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the President's chief foreign affairs adviser. The Secretary carries out the President's foreign policies through the State Department and the Foreign Service of the United States.
Secretary of the Treasury
The Secretary of the Treasury is Janet Yellen. The Secretary of the Treasury is the principal economic advisor to the President and plays a critical role in policy-making by bringing an economic and government financial policy perspective to issues facing the government.
Secretary of Defense
The Secretary of Defense is Lloyd Austin. The Secretary of Defense is the principal defense policy advisor to the President and is responsible for the formulation of general defense policy and policy related to all matters of direct concern to the Department of Defense.
Attorney General
The Attorney General is Merrick Garland. The Attorney General represents the United States in legal matters, advises the President and the heads of the executive departments of the government, and occasionally appears in person before the Supreme Court.
Secretary of the Interior
The Secretary of the Interior is Deb Haaland. The Secretary of the Interior is in charge of the management and conservation of most federal land and natural resources.
Secretary of Agriculture
The Secretary of Agriculture is Tom Vilsack. The Secretary of Agriculture is responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, forestry, rural economic development, and food.
Secretary of Commerce
The Secretary of Commerce is Gina Raimondo. The Secretary of Commerce is the principal voice of business in the President's Cabinet.
Secretary of Labor
The Secretary of Labor is Marty Walsh. The Secretary of Labor is responsible for occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, reemployment services, and some economic statistics.
Secretary of Health and Human Services
The Secretary of Health and Human Services is Xavier Becerra. The Secretary of Health and Human Services is responsible for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services.
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is Marcia Fudge. The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is responsible for national policy and programs that address America's housing needs, that improve and develop the nation's communities, and enforce fair housing laws.
Secretary of Transportation
The Secretary of Transportation is Pete Buttigieg. The Secretary of Transportation is concerned with transportation and transportation-related matters.
Secretary of Energy
The Secretary of Energy is Jennifer Granholm. The Secretary of Energy is responsible for the nation's nuclear infrastructure and nuclear research and development.
Secretary of Education
The Secretary of Education is Miguel Cardona. The Secretary of Education is responsible for the coordination of most federal assistance to education, the national educational system's improvement, and the enforcement of federal educational laws regarding privacy and civil rights.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs is Denis McDonough. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs is responsible for administering benefit programs for veterans, their families, and their survivors.
Secretary of Homeland Security
The Secretary of Homeland Security is Alejandro Mayorkas. The Secretary of Homeland Security is responsible for protecting the United States from terrorist attacks, responding to natural disasters, and enforcing immigration laws.
