Nobel Prizes
The Nobel Prize is a set of prestigious international awards given annually in several categories. They were established by the will of Alfred Nobel, a Swedish inventor, engineer, and industrialist. The prizes were first awarded in 1901.
Pulitzer Prizes
The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, literature, and musical composition within the United States. It was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of Joseph Pulitzer, who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher.
Turing Award
The Turing Award is an annual prize given by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) to an individual selected for contributions "of lasting and major technical importance to the computer field". The award is generally recognized as the highest distinction in computer science and is often referred to as the "Nobel Prize of Computing". The award is named after Alan Turing, a British mathematician and reader in mathematics at the University of Manchester.
Fields Medal
The Fields Medal is a prize awarded to two, three, or four mathematicians under 40 years of age at the International Congress of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), a meeting that takes place every four years. The Fields Medal is often viewed as the highest honor a mathematician can receive. The prize is named after Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields.
Copley Medal
The Copley Medal is a scientific award given by the Royal Society, for "outstanding achievements in scientific research in any branch of science". It alternates between the physical and the biological sciences. The medal was created following a donation of £100 to be used for carrying out experiments by Sir Godfrey Copley, for which the interest on the amount was used for several years.
