Gonzaga College High School

History

Gonzaga College High School, located in Washington, D.C., is a private, Catholic institution for young men in grades 9-12. The school was established by the Jesuits in 1821 and is one of the oldest educational institutions in the United States. It was originally named Washington Seminary and was located in the heart of the city, near the Capitol and the White House. The school was renamed Gonzaga College in 1858, in honor of the Jesuit saint Aloysius Gonzaga, and later became known as Gonzaga College High School.

Academics

Gonzaga offers a rigorous academic program that prepares students for college and beyond. The curriculum includes a wide range of courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign languages, and religion. Gonzaga also offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses and a number of electives in various subjects. The school is known for its strong emphasis on the humanities, particularly in the areas of literature, history, and philosophy.

Campus

The Gonzaga campus is located in the heart of Washington, D.C., near Union Station and the Capitol. The campus includes several historic buildings, including the original school building, which is now known as St. Aloysius Church. Other facilities on campus include the Sheehy Theater, the Carmody Center, which houses the school's gymnasium and athletic facilities, and the Ruesch Family Center, which includes classrooms and administrative offices.

Athletics

Gonzaga has a strong athletic program and competes in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC). The school offers a variety of sports, including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, and track and field. Gonzaga's athletic teams, known as the Eagles, have won numerous WCAC championships and have a strong tradition of success.

Extracurricular Activities

In addition to academics and athletics, Gonzaga offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. These include clubs and organizations related to the arts, service, leadership, and academic interests. Some of the most popular clubs at Gonzaga include the debate team, the robotics team, the drama club, and the student government association.

Notable Alumni

Gonzaga has a long list of notable alumni, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in a variety of fields. These include politicians, business leaders, athletes, and entertainers. Some of the most notable alumni include former FBI Director James Comey, former NFL player Brian Westbrook, and actor William Petersen.
