History

Fudan University, located in Shanghai, China, is one of the most prestigious and selective universities in the country. It was founded in 1905 as Fudan Public School by Ma Xiangbo, a Jesuit priest and educator. The name "Fudan" originates from a Confucian classic, meaning "heavenly light shines day after day." This institution has undergone significant transformations over the years, evolving from a public school to a comprehensive research university.

The university was nationalized after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. During the Cultural Revolution, like many other educational institutions, Fudan faced significant disruptions.
