Elizabeth Trump and Son
Early History
Elizabeth Christ Trump, born on October 10, 1880, was a German-born American businesswoman and is best known as the matriarch of the Trump family of real estate developers. Her descendants include her son Frederick (Fred) Christ Trump Sr. and her grandson, the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
Elizabeth immigrated to the United States from Kallstadt, Kingdom of Bavaria (now in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany), in 1902. She married Frederick Trump in 1902 and moved to New York City. Following her husband's death in 1918, Elizabeth had to manage the vast real estate holdings that he left behind.
Elizabeth Trump and Son
In 1923, Elizabeth Trump, along with her son Fred, founded the real estate development company "Elizabeth Trump and Son". The company, which would later become The Trump Organization, initially focused on middle-income housing in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
Elizabeth remained involved in the family business throughout her life, even after Fred became the driving force behind the company's growth and expansion. She was a formidable businesswoman, known for her business acumen, work ethic, and determination.
Business Practices and Projects
Elizabeth Trump and Son was known for its sound business practices. The company built and sold thousands of houses, barracks, and apartments. The business was also involved in several major real estate projects in New York City during the mid-20th century.
One of the company's significant projects was the development of Shore Haven in Brooklyn in 1940. This project was followed by the Beach Haven near Coney Island in Brooklyn and the Trump Village, an apartment complex in Coney Island, which was completed in 1964.
Transition to The Trump Organization
In 1971, Elizabeth Trump and Son was renamed to The Trump Organization. By this time, Elizabeth's grandson, Donald Trump, had become the president of the company. Under his leadership, The Trump Organization expanded its operations beyond New York City, becoming a global brand.
