Dennis Crowley

Early life and education

Dennis Crowley was born in Medway, Massachusetts, United States. He completed his high school education at Medway High School. After high school, Crowley attended Syracuse University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. He later pursued further studies at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), where he earned his Master's degree.

Career

Crowley's professional career began in the field of mobile technology. His early work focused on the development of location-based software for mobile devices. In 2000, he co-founded a company called Dodgeball, a mobile social networking software. Dodgeball was later acquired by Google in 2005. However, Google decided to shut down Dodgeball in 2009.

In 2009, Crowley co-founded Foursquare, a location-based social networking website for mobile devices. Foursquare was a significant development in the field of mobile technology, as it introduced the concept of "check-ins" at physical locations and the idea of earning badges for check-ins. Crowley served as the CEO of Foursquare until 2017, when he stepped down but remained a member of the company's board of directors.

In addition to his work at Foursquare, Crowley has been involved in various other projects in the field of technology. He is a co-founder of the Kingston Stockade Football Club, a semi-professional soccer team based in Kingston, New York. He has also served as a visiting scholar at MIT Media Lab, where he worked on projects related to location-based technology.

Recognition and awards

Over the years, Crowley has received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the field of mobile technology. In 2010, he was named one of the "Top 35 Innovators Under 35" by MIT Technology Review. In 2014, he was included in the "40 Under 40" list by Crain's New York Business. He has also received the "Fast 50" award from Fast Company for his work at Foursquare.

Personal life

Crowley is married and has two children. He is known to be an avid fan of soccer and has been involved in various soccer-related projects, including the founding of the Kingston Stockade Football Club. He is also a regular speaker at technology conferences and events.
