Chapman University
History
Chapman University, located in Orange, California, is a private university with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1861. Originally established as Hesperian College in Woodland, California, it was founded by members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The institution was named after Charles C. Chapman, a prominent California businessman and the first mayor of Fullerton, who was a significant benefactor. In 1934, the college was renamed Chapman College in his honor. The university moved to its current location in Orange in 1954, occupying the former site of the Orange Union High School. Over the decades, Chapman University has expanded significantly, both in terms of its physical campus and its academic offerings.
