Calvin University

History

Calvin University, originally founded as Calvin College, is a private Christian liberal arts university located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was established in 1876 by the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) and named after the Protestant Reformer John Calvin. The institution began as a theological school aimed at training ministers for the CRCNA. Over the years, it expanded its curriculum and became a comprehensive liberal arts college. In 2019, the institution was officially renamed Calvin University to reflect its broad range of academic programs and research initiatives.
