The bald cypress, scientifically known as Taxodium distichum, is a deciduous conifer native to the southeastern United States. It belongs to the family Cupressaceae, which also includes other notable genera such as Sequoia and Juniperus. The bald cypress is renowned for its distinctive appearance and ecological significance in wetland environments.
Morphology and Anatomy
Bald cypress trees are characterized by their tall, straight trunks that can reach heights of 35 to 40 meters, with diameters often exceeding 2 meters. The bark is fibrous and reddish-brown, peeling off in long strips.
