Amy Lee Grant was born on November 25, 1960, in Augusta, Georgia, USA. She was raised in Nashville, Tennessee, in a family deeply rooted in the Christian faith. Her parents, Burton Paine Grant and Gloria Dean Napier Grant, encouraged her to pursue her interest in music from a young age.
Grant attended Harpeth Hall, a private all-girls school in Nashville, where she developed her singing and songwriting skills. She later enrolled at Furman University in South Carolina before transferring to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where she studied English.
