Geography
Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, is located on an island in the Persian Gulf. History
The area known as Abu Dhabi has been inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC, with its early history tied to the nomadic tribes of the Bani Yas confederation. The city itself was established in the late 18th century as a hunting and pearling base. The discovery of oil in the 1950s transformed Abu Dhabi from a modest fishing village into a modern metropolis.
Economy
Abu Dhabi's economy is primarily based on oil exports, which account for the majority of the emirate's revenue.
