Yunnan University

History

Yunnan University, often abbreviated as YNU, is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education in Yunnan, China. The university was originally established in December 1922 as the Private Donglu University, making it one of the earliest comprehensive universities in the southwest of China. The institution was renamed Yunnan University in 1934, and has since grown and evolved to become a key national university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education.

Academics

Yunnan University is renowned for its comprehensive and rigorous academic programs. The university offers a wide range of disciplines, including 11 first-level disciplines for doctoral degrees, 27 first-level disciplines for master's degrees, and 96 undergraduate majors. The university's academic strengths lie particularly in the fields of ethnology, ecology, ethnic minority languages, and environmental science and engineering, among others.

Campus

The main campus of Yunnan University is located in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province. The campus is known for its beautiful and tranquil environment, with the picturesque Green Lake Park situated to its east. The university also has two other campuses: the Chenggong Campus and the Lijiang Campus, which are also located in scenic areas, providing an ideal environment for teaching and research.
