History

WHU was established in 1984 by the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a response to the need for a German business school offering a practical, international, and market-oriented education. The school was initially named "Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Unternehmensführung" (Scientific University for Corporate Management). In 1993, the school was renamed "WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management" to honor its primary benefactor.
