San Francisco State University
History
San Francisco State University (SFSU), part of the California State University (CSU) system, was established in 1899 as a normal school for training teachers. Originally named San Francisco State Normal School, it was founded to address the growing need for qualified educators in California. The institution underwent several name changes, becoming San Francisco State Teachers College in 1921, San Francisco State College in 1935, and finally San Francisco State University in 1972. Throughout its history, SFSU has expanded its academic offerings and grown in size, becoming a comprehensive public university.
Campus
The main campus of San Francisco State University is located in the southwestern part of San Francisco, near Lake Merced.
