Overview
Rodalies de Catalunya (Catalan for "Commuter Trains of Catalonia") is the primary suburban railway system in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. It is operated by Renfe Operadora, the Spanish national railway company, on behalf of the Catalan government's Department of Territory and Sustainability.
History
The Rodalies de Catalunya network has its roots in the various local train services operating in Catalonia, which were gradually integrated into a unified system. The process began in the late 19th century with the establishment of the first railway lines in the region, and was completed in 2010 when the Catalan government took over responsibility for the network from the Spanish state.
Network
The Rodalies de Catalunya network consists of eight lines, numbered R1 to R8, which serve a total of 203 stations. The network covers a wide area, extending from the Pyrenees in the north to the Ebro River in the south, and from the Mediterranean Sea in the east to the interior of Catalonia in the west.
Operations
