Marija Šerifović was born on November 14, 1984, in Kragujevac, a city in central Serbia. Her mother, Verica Šerifović, was a well-known folk singer, and her father, Rajko Šerifović, was a drummer. Marija's early exposure to music through her parents undoubtedly influenced her career path.

In 2007, Marija Šerifović represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Molitva" (Prayer).
