Dreadfort
History
The Dreadfort is a castle in the North of Westeros, and the ancestral seat of House Bolton. The castle has a dark and ominous history, with many tales of torture and cruelty associated with its past inhabitants. The Dreadfort is known for its strong fortifications and strategic location, making it a key stronghold in the North.

Architecture
The Dreadfort is built in a traditional Northern style, with high stone walls and imposing towers. The castle is surrounded by a deep moat and has a drawbridge for access. The interior of the castle is said to be equally as imposing, with long, dark corridors and a large hall where the Bolton family would hold court. The castle also has a notorious dungeon, where prisoners were often tortured.
House Bolton
House Bolton is the family that has traditionally ruled the Dreadfort. The Boltons are known for their ruthless and cruel nature, often flaying their enemies alive. This practice has earned them a fearsome reputation throughout Westeros. The sigil of House Bolton is a flayed man, a grim reminder of their brutal history.
Role in the War of the Five Kings
During the War of the Five Kings, the Dreadfort played a crucial role. Roose Bolton, the head of House Bolton, initially pledged his loyalty to Robb Stark, the King in the North. However, he later betrayed Robb and declared for House Lannister. After the Red Wedding, Roose was named Warden of the North by King Joffrey, and the Dreadfort became one of the most powerful castles in the North.
Current Status
The current status of the Dreadfort is uncertain. After the death of Roose Bolton and his legitimate son, Ramsay, the castle was left without a clear heir. It is presumed that the castle is now under the control of House Stark, but this has not been confirmed.
