History
Renfe Operadora was officially established on January 1, 2005, following the separation of the infrastructural management and train operation functions of the former Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (Renfe). This restructuring was part of a broader European Union directive aimed at liberalizing the railway sector across member states. The newly formed Renfe Operadora was tasked with train operations, while the infrastructural management was assigned to the newly created entity, Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (Adif).
