History
Kasımiye Madrasa is an historical madrasa located in the city of Mardin, in southeastern Turkey. The madrasa, which dates back to the Artuqid period, is one of the most significant architectural structures in the region. Its construction began during the reign of Artuqid Sultan Melik Necmeddin Isa and was completed by the Akkoyunlu Sultan Kasım, from whom the madrasa takes its name.

Architecture
The architecture of Kasımiye Madrasa is a prime example of the Islamic architectural style of the period, characterized by its use of cut stone and intricate carvings. The madrasa is built on a sloping terrain, and its design takes advantage of this natural feature. The entrance is a monumental portal decorated with muqarnas, a form of ornamented vaulting in Islamic architecture. The madrasa consists of a central courtyard surrounded by student cells, a mosque, a library, and a lecture hall. The central courtyard features a pool, which was used for ablutions and also helped to cool the building.
Educational Role
Kasımiye Madrasa played a significant role in the educational life of the region during the Middle Ages. As a madrasa, it was an institution where students studied various branches of Islamic knowledge, including Qur'anic studies, hadith, fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and kalam (Islamic theology). The madrasa also offered courses in secular subjects such as mathematics, astronomy, and medicine. It attracted students from all over the Islamic world and was renowned for its high academic standards.

It is also used for cultural events such as concerts and exhibitions. The madrasa is an important symbol of Mardin's rich cultural heritage and a testament to the city's historical role as a center of learning.
