Glynco, Georgia
Overview
Glynco, Georgia is a small unincorporated community located in southeastern U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of Glynn County and is best known for its association with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).
History
The area now known as Glynco was originally inhabited by the Guale people, a Native American tribe. European exploration of the area began in the 16th century with the arrival of the Spanish. The area was later colonized by the British in the 18th century.
In the 20th century, Glynco was the site of the Glynco Naval Air Station, which was operational from 1942 to 1974. After the closure of the air station, the site was repurposed and became the home of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in 1975.
Geography
Glynco is located in the southeastern part of Georgia, near the Atlantic coast. It is part of the larger Brunswick metropolitan area. The community is primarily rural, with a mix of forested areas and open fields. The area is characterized by its flat topography and its proximity to several bodies of water, including the Turtle River and various smaller creeks and ponds.
Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco is the largest facility of its kind in the country. It serves as the primary training site for more than 90 federal law enforcement agencies. The FLETC offers both basic and advanced law enforcement training programs, and also provides services to state, local, and international law enforcement agencies.
The FLETC campus in Glynco covers more than 1,600 acres and includes classrooms, firing ranges, a mock port of entry, a driving track, and residential areas for students. The center employs more than 1,000 staff members and trains thousands of law enforcement officers each year.

The economy of Glynco is largely tied to the presence of the FLETC. The center is one of the largest employers in the area and has a significant impact on the local economy. Other sectors contributing to the local economy include agriculture, retail, and services.
